Our Southern Black Foodie Tour took us on a mini road trip from Miami to Savannah stopping in Orlando along the way. Unless you’re a local or you know someone who lives there, finding Black owned spaces can be challenging in Orlando. With so many attractions and eateries to choose from, it’s easy for Black owned spaces to get lost in the mix.
Fortunately, my five years of researching and writing about Black owned eateries have made me into a foodie hound dog capable of sniffing out Black culinary excellence just about anywhere. We were told of a 1000-degree pizza franchise recently purchased and opened by Mrs. Oriel, an incredible entrepreneur who is ensuring that amazing pizza is coming out of their super-heated oven, while she’s also quite involved in her community and civic associations.
With so many quick casual concepts popping up, I was impressed with this spot because of its two unique differences from your typical pizza spot. The pizza is prepared in the Neapolitan-style thin and soft crust. When cooked properly at high temperatures, the crust will bubble up with charred in spots within the crust. You can save a couple calories with this style, given that the crust is a lot thinner than the more traditional Chicago or New York style pizza.
What I appreciated about this quick casual spot is that your pizza is created by the customer! That’s right, you can pile on all the toppings you want, choose your cheese, sauce, and the size of your crust from the freshly rolled dough and have it fired up in their ginormous oven and your pizza is fresh and ready in under five minutes. I was even more excited with their vegan options using a delicious cauliflower crust.
I was happy with the monstrosity of a pizza I created with over ten toppings. I didn’t care. I wanted to push it to the limit! It felt great to have my pizza handed to me fresh instead of it sitting behind a counter waiting under a heat lamp or heating board to be cut up and reheated like you get at so many mom and pop pizzerias.
The already reasonably priced pizzas become even more appealing with the flat pricing. With over twenty-three (23) toppings, it does not matter how many toppings you pile on, the price stays the same! For $7.95 you get a single-person 10-inch round; $14.95 for a shareable 14-inch version that I think is a real steal for families or greedy folks like myself.
As tasty as the pizza was, I’m a sucker for good wings and they did not disappoint. The Honey Buffalo wings were so good, I ate all of them right on camera.
In addition to beer and wine, they also offer an assortment of pastries, cookies, and sweets for dessert. The brand itself has been one of my go-tos and now I’m even more motivated to visit so I can watch my pizza made right before my eyes and enjoy it in less than five minutes.
What an ideal spot when you tourists visit theme parks or stay in nearby hotels! Or you can pick up or order in because Mrs. Oriel is on just about every delivery service available. Visit them at 13599 W Colonial Dr, Winter Garden, FL 34787 or call them at (407) 554-3206.
