A recent visit to Chicago reminded me of growing up in Miami with the Frozen Cup Lady or the Candy Lady’s House. The Black community was blessed to have local neighborhood women who were essentially many Black children’s earliest encounter with entrepreneurship. In addition to enjoying the variety of bargain priced goodies they sold, it also presented an opportunity for the budding entrepreneurs among us to get in on the action. I stocked up on candy bars, fruity candies, chips and other corner store favorites to sell in school, easily and frequently earning $50 profit.
Sweet Dreams Frozen Yogurt, located at 17 W 35th St, Chicago, IL 60616 is a delicious frozen yogurt space that not only serves soft serve frozen yogurt in various flavors, they also sell an arsenal of candies, many throwback varieties from my childhood that are sold in places like Cracker Barrel.
I appreciate that frozen yogurt (also known as froyo or frogurt) replaces most of the dairy cream used in ice cream with actual yogurt. That substitution means milkfat makes up only 0.5 percent to six percent of frozen yogurt, with sugar or sweeteners making up 15 percent to 17 percent of the weight.
Sweet Dreams yogurt resembles soft-serve ice cream, with a smooth and creamy texture. I enjoyed each flavor, including a very tasty strawberry flavor with cheesecake toppings.
They also recently introduced lite food items such as Dorito nachos served with a smoldering cheese sauce, jalapenos, and sautéed beef. Fresh made funnel cakes with ice cream and an arsenal of toppings have also been added to the menu. To avoid a sugar crash later, I conservatively added chocolate sprinkles.
This family friendly shop is a great stop on the way two or from the Braves stadium and a wonderful way to celebrate the Braves’ incredible win. Congratulations! Call them at (773) 285-9980.
