The Hungry Black Man Media out of Miami, FL took a trip to Montgomery, AL to taste all the deliciousness of the city and has discovered so many amazing hidden Black owned gems. Our Riverboat Unity Foodie Tour has made a lasting impression on me and this incredible city! We visited Lu Lu’s Cake Shop located at 2463 Highland Ave, Montgomery, AL 36107, that provided a sugary oasis amidst the Montgomery brawl of flavors.
First things first, let’s talk about those cupcakes. They’ve got a lineup that would make a food critic weep tear of joy. And folks, when it comes to cupcakes, Lu Lu’s knows how to whip up some magical concoctions.
Vanilla Cupcake: If there was ever a cupcake that embodied “culinary textbook perfection,” it’s Lu Lu’s vanilla wonder. The texture? So soft and buttery, it’s like a pillow for your taste buds. The flavor? Subtle vanilla notes that will make you question why you ever bothered with plain old vanilla.
Red Velvet Cupcake: Ah, the red velvet ruckus! The texture here is so velvety it’s like a smooth dance floor for your tongue. And the flavor? It’s got that perfect cocoa hint with a dash of tang that’ll make you want to join the Montgomery brawl just to get another one.
Chocolate Cupcake: This is the cupcake that turns chocolate lovers into believers. The texture? Moist, decadent, and downright sinful. The flavor? It’s like a cocoa explosion in your mouth, a flavor eruption so divine you’ll want to join a chocolate fan club.
Carrot Cake Cupcake: Lu Lu’s carrot cake cupcake is like the peacemaker of the Montgomery brawl. The texture? Incredibly moist with real carrots and walnuts giving it some crunch. The flavor? A perfect blend of spices, sweetness, and just the right amount of cream cheese frosting to broker peace in your taste buds.
But folks, let me tell you about the crown jewel of the Lu Lu’s experience: the Key Lime Cupcake. This cupcake isn’t just a star; it’s a superstar. The texture? Light and moist, like a tropical breeze on your tongue. The flavor? It’s like a Key West Florida vacation in your mouth, with a zesty lime kick and a cream cheese frosting that was one of the best I’ve had in the entire nation.
Now, for her cakes. Had there been any of these cake slices on that dock, it could have more have put a stop to the entire fight with one spoonful:
Red Velvet Cake with Buttercream Icing: This cake is so good; it could make feuding factions share a slice in peace. The texture is velvety, and the buttercream icing is like a sweet, fluffy cloud. It’s red velvet diplomacy at its finest.
German Chocolate Cake: This cake is so decadent it could end any Montgomery brawl and bring everyone together in chocolatey harmony. Rich, moist chocolate layers meet a coconut-pecan frosting that’s sweet, nutty, and the stuff of dreams.
And let’s not forget the sweet, sweet ending to our Lu Lu’s adventure:
Banana Pudding: Made with fresh bananas, this pudding is so good; it could turn any Montgomery brawl into a banana dance-off. Creamy vanilla pudding, vanilla wafers, and ripe bananas create a symphony of flavors that’ll leave you humming with joy.
And last but not least, the Butter Blondie: This little treat is so buttery it could smooth out even the fiercest Montgomery brawl. It’s a sweet, golden nugget of perfection that wraps up your Lu Lu’s experience with a sweet, delicious bow.
