With the media, coronavirus, the weather and more as reasons to stay locked in our homes, food remains the only thing sending me outside. Taylormade Que, located at 6717 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60621 and their incredibly delicious BBQ creations offer reason after reason for venturing safely outdoors. Their diverse menu offers, among other tasty items, certified angus beef burgers topped with seasoned jerk chicken, four pound potatoes overflowing with BBQ rib tips, seafood and veggies and two secret sauces so incredibly delicious that I accidently bit my fingers trying to ensure not one droplet went to waste.
Mr. Gregory Taylor earned my respect as cook and pit master by ensuring each rib was cooked to a beautiful dark and crusty tip yielding juicy and non-chewy flavor in each bite.
I started my order with the Loaded Potato stuffed with jerk chicken, steak, broccoli, shrimp, bacon bits, and topped with chives, sour cream, and cheese. This is the largest item on the menu and there is absolutely no way you could eat this entire thing by yourself unless you’ve been starving for a couple days. I hate unseasoned, bland loaded potatoes that need the flavor of the toppings to make them tasty. This potato wasn’t like that – at all – because it was seasoned so well it could have been devoured all by itself. The insanely delicious toppings were a flavorful bonus.
The next item knocked their competitors out the window with their 100% Angus Beef Jerk Polish Sausage topped with bell peppers, onions, and jerk chicken and smothered in their jerk marinade. This standout sandwich explains why so many folks call Chicago a foodie’s paradise. The jerk marinade will have you asking for more and more to smother on your entrée because the spice, heat, and flavor all work in unison to produce a fleeting, yet impactful interpretation of its authentic cousin, Jamaican jerk. As delicious as that is, they didn’t stop there, taking it up a unique and desirable notch by meshing it with just the right amount of Kansas City style BBQ sauce. This sauce can easily be bottled and sold throughout the U.S. The Jerk Polish is a MUST HAVE when you visit this takeout eatery.
Next we moved on to yet another winner, their Fusion Sauce. Mrs. Chanel Taylor, the owner’s wife, said this customer favorite is used on their signature Jerk (100 % Angus beef) Burger, which is topped with marinated jerk chicken, bell peppers, onions, and of course the fusion sauce. The unforgettable fusion sauce rivals their jerk marinade. If this sauce were sold in stores, I would stockpile it in my home and use it on everything from BBQ ribs to rotisserie chicken, to grilled veggies. The food here is already amazing, but the two sauces take it to deliciously flavorful heights.
This space is truly providing Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood with excellent food and great prices. Case in point – their trio platters are perfect for a date or small family looking for a quick, inexpensive bite. The entrée had tacos, buffalo chicken, and loaded fries for next to nothing. The portion sizes are massive and the service was pleasant and welcoming. The very impressive icing on the cake is that every day, this small outlet cuts up their own potato fries!
This was a third Chicago Black Foodie Tour and I am so happy that we could stop by Taylormade Que and enjoy their entrees and their incredible sauces. I can’t wait to fly up from Miami, FL next month and get my Taylormade Que fix. You can call them at Phone: (872) 244-3616 or visit there store at 6717 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60621.
